The minutes of the January meeting were approved.

FINANCIAL REPORT for January - presented by John Sterling

·         The Club netted $3933 from the January Sectional which is in line with last year’s profits.

·         New Card Shuffler - We are proud that our club members made donations totaling $1165 and another $1000 in matching funds was contributed by a generous member.  Thank you to everyone.

·         At the time our new directory went to press we had 319 club members for 2009.

·         January expenses are somewhat higher than last year due to the land, rent and building insurance premium paid this month instead of last.  Also, our supply expenses were high primarily because of accessories necessary to the new shuffler.

OLD BUSINESS

Directory – Our new directory is now available to the membership.  It is requested that households with more than one club member share a directory.

Remembrance List - Shirley Townley and Shannon Schneider are currently working on this project.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE – presented by Judy Hinds

NEW BUSINESS

A motion was made and seconded and approved to replace Alan Land’s name with Jim Geary on our Bank of America checking account signature authorization.  With this change, the members who can sign checks are: Bruce Ohmann, Rita Carlin, Susie Hagey and Jim Geary.

It was pointed out to the Board that several By-Law changes had been proposed in 2002 that appeared not to be being followed.  After some research by Jim it is apparent these proposals were never voted by the membership and implemented.  This board is looking over those proposals and will discuss their current validity.  In the meantime it is operating by the 1996 by-laws as posted on our website.  It was decided that, at the end of this year, any proposed amendments or amendment changes would be presented to the membership for a vote on the ballot in conjunction with the next board elections.

Kitchen maintenance – Susan Hagey brought to the attention of the board the need to improve upon the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen.  The board agrees with and appreciates her suggestion.  The following is being put into place.

1.      Spike and Barbara King have  agreed to oversee keeping the kitchen cabinets and refrigerator cleaned out on a monthly basis.

2.      It is requested that all members who put items into the refrigerator please label them with a date.  Markers will be made available for that purpose.

3.      Barbara King is heading a committee, with help from Chet and Donna, to organize the kitchen in general.  Labeling should help all who use it to find and replace items appropriately.

4.      The budget for food was discussed.  Donations from members are always welcome and very much appreciated.

Spike presented to the board an offer made by Mike Lawrence to teach a class at DMBC with all proceeds going to a charity of our choice.    Spike will be contacting Mike and further discussing this possibility.   Members should let him know of their possible interest in this class.

Spike also reported on the success and user satisfaction with our new card shuffler.

The board also wishes to acknowledge Bill McManus for all the work he has done on the new directory, the new shuffler, and on his maintaining our amazing website.

Also, a special acknowledgement is given to John Sterling for his excellent work on the directory.

Members may have noticed a new chair in the room.  It was hand crafted by Joe Reeves for Shirley Townley in acknowledgement of her ongoing and long-term dedication to our club.   The board is deeply grateful to Joe for his innovative design and his tribute to Shirley.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 pm.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2009.
